John R. "Sheik" Sikora, age 78, of Poland, died on Thursday, January 8, 2015 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born in Campbell on December 11, 1936 to the late John and Mary Sikora.
John was a 1954 graduate of Campbell High School where he lettered in football and golf and was a 2002 inductee in the Campbell Memorial Hall of Fame.
He proudly served in the United States Army for four years, stationed in Germany.
John was employed at Youngstown Sheet and Tube until 1977 then went onto work at Marucci and Gaffney Excavating. He was an avid golfer and avid gardener, was a fantastic cook, enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Youngstown Sheet and Tube Golf League, Campbell Golf League, Campbell Hole-in-One Club, Campbell Gridiron Club and Struthers Gridiron Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, John Schneider and Rick Sikora; his two brothers, David and James Sikora.
He leaves his loving wife of 54 years Pat Zupko Sikora of the home; son, Mickey (Sharon Desko) Sikora of Hubbard; grandchildren, John and Alyssa Sikora and Hannah and Douglas Schneider; his sister, Rita (Fred) Weidenthal of Austintown; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2-4pm at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St. Struthers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00am at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas, with the Rev. Fr. Bernard Bonnott as Celebrant.
