Boardman - Winetta Jane Milligan, 92, died Saturday afternoon, August 9, 2014 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center.
Mrs. Milligan was born May 19, 1922 in Easton, Maine, a daughter of Clarence Laforest and Etta Julia (Lamoreaux) Adams.
A graduate of Easton High School, Mrs. Milligan attended Westbrook Jr. College and the New England Deaconess School of Nursing in Boston, receiving her registered nursing degree. Mrs. Milligan began her registered nursing career at Presque Isle General Hospital in Maine. She married William John Milligan Sr. on October 16, 1944 and they moved to Boardman that year. After raising her two children, Mrs. Milligan returned to nursing and worked for the Southside Hospital in the emergency room and retired from the former Little Forest Nursing Home in Boardman.
She was a member of the Boardman United Methodist Church and belonged to its Rebecca Circle. Active in the community, Winetta and her husband volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Her interests included needlework, quilting, cooking, and she enjoyed traveling extensively after retirement.
She is survived by her husband, William John Milligan, Sr.; two children, W. John (Kathleen) Milligan Jr. of Petersburg and Susan of Gaithersburg, MD; three grandchildren, Anne (Chad) Justice, Kate (Joe) Donatella, and John Paul (Ashley) Milligan; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kempton Adams.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, where family and friends will be received from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery, Youngstown.
