Boardman - Wilma J. "Jean" Zimmerman, 86, died Friday, April 4, 2014 at Vista Center of Boardman.
Mrs. Zimmerman was born December 18, 1927 in Youngstown, a daughter of Charles F. and Wilma J. (Cearfoss) O'Neill. She lived in the Youngstown area until moving to Upland, California in 1975 and then returned to this area again in 1984.
She was a graduate of The Rayen School, Class of 1945, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Mrs. Zimmerman attended Youngstown Business College and Chaffee College of California. Jean was employed by Mahoning Motors and worked for Montgomery Ward's Department Store in the credit department while in California.
She was a member of St. Christine Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, the Garden Forum of Ohio, and a member of the Wagom's Club, which was a club made up of Jean's childhood friends who met monthly for over 70 years. She also volunteered for Fellows Riverside Gardens and enjoyed playing cards in several senior clubs, gardening, and flower arranging. Jean never knew a stranger and her uplifting, fun, and positive nature will be missed by all.
Her husband, Harry R. Zimmerman, whom she married July 26, 1947 at St. Ann's Church, died October 2, 1982. She is survived by three daughters, Jane Martin of Youngstown, Nancy (Ken) Croutch of Boardman, and Wilma (Rob) O'Donnell of Cranberry Twp., PA; brother, Joseph O'Neill of The Villages, FL; daughter-in-law, Cathy Zimmerman of Boardman; eight grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Brocious, Eric (Michele) Zimmerman, Daniel (Nikki) Croutch, Kevin (Ariela) Zimmerman, Michael (Angela) Croutch, Audrey (Justin) Loadholtz, Hank O'Donnell, and Andrew (Dawn) Croutch; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by her son, Harry C. Zimmerman; and two brothers, John "Jack" and Charles "Bill" O'Neill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown. Interment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mrs. Zimmerman's name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 6155 Rockside Rd., Suite 202, Independence, OH 44131.
