BOARDMAN - Wilma "Billie" Nelson passed on peacefully to be with our Lord on Aug. 12, 2014, at Hospice House Boardman, after a few months of battling cancer.
Daughter of William G. and Cornelia Martin, she was born on Jan. 7, in Youngstown.
She married James H. Nelson on May 22, 1948.
Billie was secretary/treasurer of Martin Nelson Inc., which she and her husband owned. After retirement, she worked at the Wrist Connection, Possessions, and sold Jafra Cosmetics. Along with those jobs, the one she enjoyed most was being a full time mother and grandmother.
Most of all, Billie cherished her church, family and music. Billie loved to play golf, bridge and bunco with her friends and neighbors. She was very tech savvy with her computer and texting on her I Phone with her friends, kids and grandkids, up until her last days.
She was a member and golf chairman of the Youngstown Country Club and Tippecanoe Country Club, and was an avid golfer and proudly had two hole-in-ones.
Billie enjoyed socializing with her friends, family, neighbors, and everyone she met. She was recognized as "The Queen" by her family and many more. She kept up with all sports and was a huge Buckeye fan.
Billie was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Boardman, where she sang in the choir and played with the bocce group.
Billie leaves her two daughters, Dianna Meehan (Tim) of Boardman and Joyce Nelson-Wright (Will) of Alta Loma, Calif.; two grandsons, Brad Meehan (Angie) of New York, N.Y. and Jeff Meehan (Mara) of Augusta, Ga; and her sister, Sally McCormick (Oscar) of Las Vegas.
Her parents; husband, Jim; and sister, Ida Belle, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Youngstown, OH 44512 or Hospice House.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Aug. 25, at noon at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon.
