Struthers - Willie Massie, 99, of Struthers, died January 2, 2010 at her residence.
Mrs. Massie was born October 17, 1910 in Fort Wayne, WV, a daughter of Frederick and Nellie Gillam Massie. She moved to Struthers in 1929.
She was a graduate of Fort Wayne High School and received her LPN degree in Youngstown. Mrs. Massie worked as a nurse for Woodside Receiving Hospital for over 26 years, retiring in 1978.
Mrs. Massie was a member of the Struthers United Methodist Church and its Women's Association and a charter member of the Daughters of America 304 and its past Councilor Club. She loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and enjoyed canning.
Her husband, Harold B. Massie, whom she married, July 2, 1929, died March 22, 1975. She leaves one daughter Leta Crawford of Struthers; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter Nellie Harding, and a sister, Hazel Conner
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 3-4:45 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, where funeral services will follow at 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the Massie family would like contributions to be given in Willie's name to MVI Hospice, 4891 Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44505.
