New Middletown - William R. Young, 87, died August 25, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Young was born May 8, 1927 in Youngstown, a son of William and Edna Scargill Young.
He graduated from Chaney High School and was owner/operator Young's Golden Dawn grocery store in New Middletown, retiring in the late 80's.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII and the Korean War.
William enjoyed golfing, bowling, and watching Seinfeld.
He is survived by his wife, the former Katherine Davanzo, whom he married Jan. 31, 1951; two sons, Dr. Gary (Cheryl) Young of Poland and William (Shelly) Young of Green Springs, OH; one daughter, Bonnie (Wes) Kirkwood of Marysville, OH; nine grandchildren, Shana (Jude) Andres of Sandusky, Darcy Young of Green Springs, Keith Young of Rootstown, Kurt Young of Redwood Shores, CA, Korey Young of Columbus, Kyle Young of Poland, Kris Young of Alliance, Ben Kirkwood of Marysville, and Jake Kirkwood of Marysville.
Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by one brother, James Young; and two sisters, Edna Mae Cosma and Harriet Cleland.
Private services will be held at Poland Riverside Cemetery, Poland.
Arrangements are being handled by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
