New Springfield-William E. Wolfe, 72, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, June 30 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center Emergency Room.
Affectionately known as "Bill," he was born December 30, 1942 in Youngstown, a son of the late David and Josephine Couch Wolfe.
A 1961 graduate of South High School, Mr. Wolfe worked as an electronics service technician for South Side Radio and later for Doc's Radio and TV, from which he retired. A United States Army veteran, he served in Vietnam and was a member of New Springfield VFW Post 2799.
William spent much of his free time volunteering for organizations he held dear to his heart, namely the YMCA, Camp Fitch, Boy Scouts of America, Boardman Little Spartans Football team, and his favorite, Angels for Animals. When volunteering at Angels for Animals, while wearing his usual white lab coat, he referred to himself as the "Doctor of Laundry" and "Best Friend" of the cats, who waited there to be adopted. He called each one by name and made sure that each one got his brief, but undivided attention. He was an active member of the Western Reserve Amateur Radio Club for many years. A long-time member of St. John's Episcopal Church, he sang in the choir, and had a great love for classical sacred music.
Bill was a knowledgeable, kind, and gentle soul, and had an amazing memory. He loved his God and his family. He is survived by his sister, Martha "Martie" (Jim) of Poland; a niece, Alyson (Eric) Roeseler of Wyoming, Ohio and their children Noah and Luke along with several cousins. He also leaves his beloved cats, "Buffy" and "Rosie."
A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Gayle Cantinella officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that any memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Rd., Canfield, Ohio 44406 or to St. John's Episcopal Church Music Program, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown, Ohio 44503.
