Struthers - William A. Slaven, 87, of Struthers, died Wednesday afternoon, May 18, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Bill was born December 10, 1928 in Struthers, a son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Layden Slaven.
A life-long resident of Struthers, Bill was a 1947 graduate of Struthers High School. He worked at the Youngstown Sheet &Tube for 30 years and at it's closing went on to work at Copperweld for 10 years. Bill was a sergeant in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict.
He leaves his wife, of over 63 years, the former Phyllis Parker, whom he married March 6, 1953; one daughter, Sandra (Andrew) Popovich of Poland; two sons, William Slaven of Grove City, OH and David (Bridget) Slaven of Everett, WA; two brothers, Donald (Marilyn) Slaven of Columbiana and Harry (Mary) Slaven of Poland; three sisters, Darlene (Jack) Thomas of Bowling Green, OH, Patty Edwards of Struthers, and Karen (Jim) Lewis of Poland; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 1:00 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers with Pastor ?? officiating. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received Monday from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at the funeral home.
