William J. Serich Sr., 91, of Struthers, Ohio, died Saturday evening February 17, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center, Boardman campus.
He was born December 21, 1926 in Lowellville, OH, son of Barney and Rose (Bompage) Serich and was a lifelong area resident.
Bill worked in the open hearth at Sharon Steel, retiring in 1989 after 46 years. he was a Marine Corp. veteran and had been a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas in Struthers.
An avid baseball fan, Bill coached and managed local Babe Ruth teams and also held offices through the state and local levels. He played baseball for the Youngstown Old Timers for many years, and had played and managed the Penn-Ohio Old Timers for ten years. He was also inducted into the Old Timers Hall of Fame.
Besides his wife, L. Jeanne Serich, he is survived by his daughter, Sandy (Jon Yanno) Sheehan of Campbell; three sons, William "Butch" (Robin) Serich, Jr. of Struthers, John (Cindy) Serich of Poland and Bob Serich, of Boardman; a sister, Catherine Rodik of Poland; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann "Tootsie" McGarry, and Liz Swansinger; his brother, John Serich, and a grandson, Jamie Michael Serich.
Services will be private. Arrangements are by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
