William Leroy "Butch" Schwab, 79

Struthers- ­ Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, for William Leroy "Butch" Schwab, 79, who died peacefully Saturday March 22 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born July 6, 1934, in Struthers, the sixth son of Carl Schwab and Margaret Schwab O¹Neil. Butch was raised by his mother and stepfather, Robert O'Neil Sr.

Mr. Schwab was a 1954 graduate of Struthers High School and was a machinist at Youngstown Sheet & Tube.

Butch is survived by his wife and best friend of 58 years, the former Margaret "Peggy" Higgins, whom he married May 7, 1955. He leaves four children, Ellen Schwab (Mark Cooper) of Junction City, Ohio, Patricia
(Lawrence) McQuillan of Poland, Denise (Donald Jr.) Yoho of New Springfield and Raymond E. Schwab II of Youngstown; and grandsons Ryan McQuillan and Donald Yoho III. Also surviving him are brothers, Donald (Edna) of Clawson, Mich., and Raymond Schwab of Cortland; sisters-in-law and brothers­in-law Clara Schwab of Tucson, Ariz., Arlene Schwab of Texas, Norma Higgins, Eileen (Joseph) Flora, and William (Margaret) Higgins, all of Struthers, and Michael Diciccio of Boardman.

Beside his parents and stepfather, William was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry of Tucson, Paul (Ruth) of Canfield, Gerald of Michigan and Harold "Monkey" of Nashville, Tenn.; as well as sisters-in-law, Gertrude of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Marjorie Diciccio of Boardman.

William was a lifetime member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Struthers, a member of the Church baseball team and Church council, a member of the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club trap shooting team, and a U.S. Army veteran.
William also enjoyed woodworking and coin collecting.

The family would like to thank Dr. John and Mrs. Popovec for all of their support during Williams's illness and Life Line Partners Rehabilitation and Hospice of the Valley.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
A private burial will take place at a later date at St. John Cemetery.
