William "Schmitty" Schmid

William R. Schmid (Schmitty), 79, of Struthers, Ohio, passed away Sunday evening December 9, 2018 at his home.
He was born November 22, 1939 in Youngstown, OH, son of Ernest and Nina (Wille) Schmid and had been a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1957 graduate of Struthers High School. By trade he was a machinist and an auto mechanic for various area locations including Wean United.
He was a member of Bethel Friends Church in Poland. He enjoyed working in his yard and was a passionate Cleveland sports fan. Most important in his life, was his family and his faith. He especially enjoyed the Men's Bible Study at his church.

He married his high school sweetheart, the former Mary Patricia Donnelly, June 4, 1960. Mary Pat died March 30,2005.

He leaves two sons, Bill (Kim) Schmid of North Aurora, Illinois) and Greg of Austintown; his daughter, Marni (Tom) Denmeade of New Middletown; a brother, Ernest (Thelma) Schmid of Poland and seven grandchildren,
Ryan, Hollie and Marissa Schmid, Jessica Schmid, and Julia, Kate and Luke Denmeade.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Schmid Deppen and Betty Ann Schmid Hoffman.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday December 15, 2018 at Bethel Friends Church in Poland. Friends may call from 3:30-5:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church.

Arrangements are by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests material contributions take the form of donations to Samaritan's Purse or to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
