STRUTHERS-William H. Schilling, 87, formerly of Manor Ave., died Tuesday morning at Maplecrest Nursing Home. William was born February 3, 1920 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of John and Zalma (Himes) Schilling. William attended Struthers High School and received his diploma in 1938. He was a World War II veteran earning the rank of First Sergeant. William served in the 95th Infantry Division in the Eastern Theater Operations across Europe. He was employed by the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company as a roller in the cold strip division for thirty-eight years. He was a former member of St. Nicholas Parish in Struthers. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, and hunting. Over the years, he had taken more than sixty deer with the gun, bow, and black powder rifle. In 1986, he bagged a sixteen point trophy buck which was entered into the record books with the Ohio Big Bucks Association. He also enjoyed working in the building trades as a bricklayer and a carpenter. He constructed many custom fireplaces, basements, garages, his own home, and a home for his mother. William also took great pride in the many pieces of furniture which he custom made for family and friends. William is survived by his wife, the former, Johanna R. Churan, whom he married in 1941, who resides at Maplecrest Nursing Home; three children, Billie (Ronald) Sicafuse of Poland, Patricia (Daniel) Canter of Burghill, and William Richard Schilling of Poland; one son-in-law, Ronald DeSalvo of Boardman; one brother, George Schilling of Poland; five grandchildren, Mark Sicafuse of Poland, Sharon Sicafuse of Chester, Connecticut, Christine (Scott) DeSalvo Miller of Cleveland, Michele Canter of Nashville, Tennessee, and Darrell Canter of Vienna; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Dillon, and Gabriel Canter. Besides his parents John Schilling and Zalma Schilling Lebus and her second husband, Anthony, William was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra DeSalvo, and six siblings, Edward, Robert, Lillian, Paul, Cecilia, and Constance. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral. Interment will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Lowellville. Family and friends may call Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Friday one half-hour prior to the prayer service at 9:15 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home.
