Newton Falls - William J. Peplow, 92, formerly of Struthers, died late Tuesday evening, February 7, 2017 at Allan-dell Assisted Living in Newton Falls.
William, affectionately known as "Bill," was born June 26, 1924 in Youngstown, a son of Samuel and Isabella Lewis Peplow. He was a lifelong area resident, living the majority of his life in Struthers, until moving to Newton Falls in 2014 to be close to his family.
He was graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and was employed as a lineman for Ohio Edison, retiring with over 30 years of service.
Mr. Peplow was a proud United States Navy veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict, as an electrician. He was a longtime member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Struthers and was a F&AM of Poland Lodge No. 766.
Some of Bill's favorite hobbies included leather working, fishing, riding his bike, and spending time at Mill Creek Park.
His wife, the former Joan M. Ahrens, whom he married February 21, 1948, preceded him in death on January 21, 2007. He is survived by his granddaughter, Kelly Bayerl and husband Matt of Newton Falls; two grandsons, Brett Peplow and wife Kristy of Lake Milton and Ahren Peplow of Girard; three great-grandchildren, Christian Facemire, Matthew Bayerl, and Alayna Peplow; and daughter-in-law, Christine of Florida.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Peplow was preceded in death by two sons, William and Thomas Peplow; two sisters, Isabella Hornickel and Pearl Trumbell; and two brothers, Harold and George "Alfie" Peplow.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers, with Pastor Paul Burgeson officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests that any memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mr. Peplow's name to a veteran's organization of the donor's choice.
