William O'Mellan

North Lima - William "Billy" O'Mellan, Jr., 53, of North Lima, died Tuesday morning, March 28, 2017 at Briarfield Manor at Ashley Circle.

Billy was born November 6, 1963 in Washington DC, a son of William and Theresa Duble O'Mellan. In 1965 his family returned to the Youngstown area.

Billy attended St. Ann Catholic School, Frank Ohl Middle School and was a 1982 graduate of Fitch High School. He also attended DeVry Technical Institute in Columbus. For many years, Billy worked in the kitchen of Charly's Family Restaurant in Austintown.

Billy loved football and played for Westside Colts, Canfield Cardinals, and Frank Ohl Middle School. In high school he was the quarterback for Fitch. Billy enjoyed spending time on his computer, listening to music, and attending his church, Struthers Church of Christ.

At the age of eleven, Billy was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and in 2001 was the recipient of a double transplant, kidney and pancreas. No matter what his health issues were, when asked how he was doing, Billy's response was, "I am MARVELOUS!"

Billy leaves his father William J. O'Mellan at home; his brother, Tim O'Mellan and wife Anita of Austintown; and his best buddy, his dog, Nicky.

His mother Theresa preceded him in death in 2006.

A Memorial service celebrating Billy's life will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m. at the Struthers Church of Christ. Friends will be received Monday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. A luncheon will follow the service.
