Struthers-William Eugene O'Hara, 86, of North Lima, formerly of Boardman and Struthers, died Tuesday morning, January 17, 2017 at Assumption Village.
William "Bill" affectionately known as Pop-Pop was born August 25, 1930 in Struthers, a son of John and Catherine Conlin O'Hara.
A graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1947, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served during the Korean Conflict. After he was honorably discharged, Bill returned to the area and worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube and later Jones and Laughlin. He retired as supervisor in 1996 after 40 years of service. In his capacity as a Sheet & Tube supervisor, Bill hired hundreds of local students during summer breaks from college. Bill was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers.
An avid golfer, Bill would take his grandkids golfing whenever he could. He loved watching his Fighting Irish and would travel to South Bend on occasion.
His first wife, the former Ann Funcheon, whom he married January 1954 died June of 1962. He married his second wife, Jacquelyn Pollock on September 14, 1963. She died October 28, 2011. Bill leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Michael (Angie) O'Hara of Boardman and Sean (Jennifer) O'Hara of Austintown; three daughters, Kacey (Jerry) Morell of Struthers, Patty (Ron) Mackie, of Burlington, Ontario Canada and Megan (Ron) Shives also of Struthers; thirteen grandchildren, Alicia (Jason) Wurst, Justin O'Hara, Shannon (Kevin) Sidon, Lauren (Steve) Bruno, Patrick (Lauren) Mackie, Jordan, Madison and Mason Morell, McKenna, Karli and Kamryn Shives, Samantha Skowron, Emily O'Hara; and eleven great-grandchildren, Jaden, Mason and Lexington Wurst, Keira, Langdon and Makailyn Bruno, Sophia, Jackson and Charlotte Sidon, and Mila and Maverick Mackie.
In addition to his parents and wives, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Jim O'Hara.
A Prayer service will be held Friday, 9:45 am at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Celuch officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Friends will be received Friday from 8:30 am until 9:45 am at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Assumption Village most especially Karla Stocker for the wonderful care provided to Bill.
