Lowellville - William J. "Mingy" Morocco Sr., 66, of Lowellville, died Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman, with his wife and children at his side.
Mr. Morocco was born July 18, 1943, in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Anna Morocco.
He was a 1961 graduate of Lowellville High School and attended Youngstown State University. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force, where he served in Japan and in Korea. He worked at the Falcon Foundry as a steel worker for Union Local 5025 for over 25 years, where he was their financial secretary, and retired in 1996. He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankee's and Notre Dame. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, his two dogs, Brinkley and LuLu, and enjoyed reading and watching horseracing.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Mary Ellen Joyce; two daughters, Kim (Rich) Pecchia of Campbell and Sandi Morocco of Struthers; two sons, William J. Morocco Jr. of Lowellville and Patrick (Alicia Grant) Morocco of Fairfax, Va; five grandchildren, Alexa Morocco, Jacob Carson, Marissa Pecchia, Anthony Pecchia and Aiden Erickson; two sisters Dorothy (Mike) Soltis of North Lima and Mary Jane (Michael) Prestonise of Oceanside, CA; two brothers, Pat Morocco of Vista, CA., and John (Nerina) Morocco of Lowellville; two sisters-in law, Helen Morocco of Las Vegas and Patricia Mangine of Youngstown; one brother-in-law, Dennis Joyce of Austintown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Morocco, a sister, Shirley Morocco and a sister-in-law, Norie Morocco.
Family and friends will be received Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, in Lowellville, where prayer services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:30 am at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville with Rev. Charles Poore officiating. Interment will follow at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery
