William John Milligan, Sr.

Boardman- William John Milligan, Sr., 93, died Sunday afternoon, February 28, 2016 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center in New Middletown.

Mr. Milligan was born June 19, 1922 in Youngstown, a son of John R. and Ina Young Milligan.

Raised in Youngstown, he was a graduate of Scienceville High School. After high school, he joined the CCC. Mr. Milligan worked at General Fireproofing, retiring after 31 years of service. After retirement, he went back to college and graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in education from Youngstown State University. He worked for the Youngstown City Schools as an industrial arts teacher for 10 years.

A proud veteran, Mr. Milligan served in the United States Army Air Corps. during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Corporal. While stationed in Presque Isle, Maine, he met the former Winetta Adams, while riding on a train. They were married on October 16, 1946 and moved back to Boardman that year.

He was a member of Boardman United Methodist Church. Mr. Milligan was active in the Boy Scouts, both as a scout and scout leader for many years, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels along with his wife, Winetta.

Mr. Milligan's hobbies and interests included woodworking, making clocks, which he gifted to many people over the years, and traveling extensively throughout the United States.

His wife, Winetta, preceded him in death on August 9, 2014. Mr. Milligan is survived by his son, William John (Kathleen) Milligan of Petersburg; his daughter, Susan of Gaithersburg, MD; three grandchildren, Anne (Chad) Justice, Kate (Joe) Donatella, and John Paul (Ashley) Milligan; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Milligan; and a sister, Martha Troll.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, where family and friends will be received from 10-10:45 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery, Youngstown.

The family would like to thank Masternick Memorial Health Care Center and Southern Care Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Mr. Milligan during his stay.
