William Stephen Hurford, 93 Poland- William Stephen Hurford, 93, of Briarfield Manor formerly of Poland died early Wednesday morning at the Manor. Mr. Hurford was born September 7, 1910 in Jefferson, Pennsylvania a son of Gratia Hurford and Stephen McClelland. He was 1929 graduate of Jefferson High School and was of the protestant faith. Mr. Hurford served in the United States Army for four years during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He received numerous awards and ribbons including three bronze stars. He worked in the tube mill of the Youngstown Sheet & Tube retiring in 1975 after 35 years. Mr. Hurford was a member of the Sulgrave Masonic Lodge No. 696, a 32nd degree Mason of the Valley of Scottish Rite and the Al Koran Shrine of Cleveland. His wife the former Edna Allen whom he married September 27, 1947 died June 25, 1980. He leaves one son, David of Canfield; four daughters, Gratia Ifft of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, Leanna Anthonsen of New Springfield, Mariann Hurford of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Cindy Millan of Jay, Florida; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and spouse he is preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Lewis and three brothers, Don Lewis, Kenneth Lewis, and Eugene Lewis. Private services will be Friday at the Poland Riverside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
