Lowellville - William Eugene Howell, 83, of Lowellville, died Saturday morning, June 4, 2011 at the Hospice House.
Mr. Howell was born April 29, 1928 in Ellwood City, PA, a son of A.J. and Grace Cragle Howell.
Mr. Howell was raised in Ellwood City and attended Lincoln High School. In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Alaska during the Korean War, until being discharged in 1952. In 1958, he and his family moved to Lowellville.
Mr. Howell worked as a manager for The A&P Grocery Stores for 28 years and Shop N' Save for 12 years, until his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of Evangel Baptist Church, where he served for many years as a deacon and usher.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Bessemer Rod and Gun Club.
He leaves his wife, the former Esther Mae Nagel, whom he married July 6, 1955; daughter, Barb (Tom) Magee of Mercer, PA; son, William David (Stacy) Howell of Vincent, OH; brother, Arthur Howell of Naples, FL; five grandchildren, William Peter Howell of Vincent, OH, Christin Helen Howell of Vincent, Jason Magee of Mercer, Justin (Jodi) Magee of Austintown, and Amy (Brad) Theodore of Boardman; and three great-grandchildren, Kaelin Magee, Dominic Theodore, and Hailey Magee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Charles, Donald, Raymond, and Dale Howell; and three sisters, infant Janet Howell, Sarah Straley, and Carol Lample.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Evangel Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Brunko officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Baptist Cemetery in New Castle.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville.
