William Hamilton Harris, 79 Poland- William Hamilton Harris, 79, of Poland, died Tuesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Mr. Harris, also known as Bill, was born December 23, 1927, in Youngstown, the son of Clark and Florence Bell Harris. He resided in Youngstown until moving to Poland in the late 1950s. After graduating in 1946 from South High School, Mr. Harris enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1946 until 1948. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal, having served in Japan. Returning to Youngstown, Mr. Harris received his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Youngstown College and his Masters in History from Kent State University. He taught History and Economics at Canfield High School from 1953 until 1956 and from 1953 until 1961 he taught Sociology as Limited Service Faculty at Youngstown State University. In 1956, Mr. Harris became an Industrial Relations Trainee with Republic Steel. He remained with Republic Steel, later LTV, retiring as Superintendent of Industrial Relations, Mahoning Valley District, in 1985. Mr. Harris was past member of Mahoning Valley Industrial Management Association, Youngstown Area Chamber of Commerce, and Trumbull and Youngstown Personnel Associations. He leaves his wife, the former Barbara Johns, whom he married July 9, 1976; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Patrick) Stief of Belleair Bluffs, Fla.; two sons, William Clark Harris of Campbell and David Hamilton (Carrie) Harris of Stow; one sister, June Murdoch of Youngstown; and two nephews, John (Victoria) Murdoch of Poland and David (Cindy) Murdoch of Canfield. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11:00 AM, at the Poland Presbyterian Church. Friends may call Friday, from 4-7 PM, at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
