William Godward Allen

Poland - William Godward Allen, 78, died September 7, 2016 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. Bill was born April 13, 1938 in Youngstown, son of the late, Arthur and Carrie Godward Allen.

He was a 1955 graduate of Struthers High School. He was employed at Metal Carbides for 36 years, retiring in 1999. Following his retirement, he was employed as a toll collector on the Ohio Turnpike for 12 years. Bill was a member of Poland United Methodist Church, a 50 year member and past Master of the Poland Lodge #766 F & AM and was also a 32nd degree Mason of the Valley of Youngstown Scottish Rite. He was a member of Ashlar Chapter #213 Royal Arch Masons, Miriam Chapter #278 OES and served many years with the International Order of Job's Daughters as Associate Bethel Guardian of Poland Bethel. Bill also served as the Associate Grand Guardian of the State of Ohio as well as Associate Guardian of Supreme Bethel.

He leaves his loving wife, Mary Freddie Akins Allen, whom he married on September 26, 1959; his children, Dara (Rick) Hansen of Livonia, MI, Donald (Lori) Allen of Mt. Vernon, OH, Caryl (Rick) Karalic of Clinton, OH and Terri (Tom) Williams of Poland; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Mette, Daniel (Megan) Hansen, Melissa (Travis) Johnson, Kaitlyn (Adrian) Rhodeback, Grace Allen and Sarah Williams; six great-grandchildren, Gabriela Gilde, Abigail Mette, Logan Hansen, Leah Hansen, Camryn Johnson and Troy Johnson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Mason R. Allen and an infant brother, Robert.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11am at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St. Poland, with the Pastor Michael Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5pm followed by a Masonic Service at 5pm and Monday from 10-10:45am at the funeral home.

The family asks that any donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607.
