William Benson Frank

William Benson Frank, 78 William Benson Frank, 78, of Concordia Haven Lutheran Home in Cabot, Pennsylvania, died of Parkinsonâa�a��s disease, Tuesday afternoon at the Concordia Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia. Bill was born July 12, 1928 in Youngstown, a son of William and Marie Benson Frank. He was raised in Struthers and after college resided in Pennsylvania for 56 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Struthers High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1950 from Thiel College, Greenville, Pennsylvania. He taught chemistry at The University of Pittsburgh for one year and than served in the United States Army at the Army Chemical Center in Maryland from 1951-1953. Bill then began working at Alcoa Research Laboratories, Alcoa, Pennsylvania, working 40 years as a Research Engineer in Aluminum Metallurgy and Energy Considerations in Electro Winning Aluminum and was Senior Editor of Technical Information, retiring in 1993. He was the recipient of the Arthur Vining Davis Award for Technical Excellence. Bill was a sports enthusiast and an avid hunter and fisherman. One year, Bill visited his relatives in Sweden where he had the pleasant experience of elk hunting. Bill and his cousin, D. Jim Frank enjoyed many wonderful times fishing for Walleye in Canada. He also enjoyed tennis, belonged to two bridge clubs, and liked to play pinochle. Bill was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, American Chemical Society, Electro-Chemical Society, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, and American Institute of Mining and Petroleum Engineers. Bill is survived by his sister, Lois Frank, of Struthers, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11:00 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Friends may call Friday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
