Bill was born June 1, 1931 in Glenside, PA the son of George W.E. and Ethel G. Foster.
He graduated from Jenkintown High School in 1949, Jenkintown, PA and from Friends Central School of Philadelphia, PA in 1950.
Bill graduated Franklin & Marshall College of Lancaster, PA, Class of 1954. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and was inducted into the Franklin & Marshall Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1952 NCAA Champion College soccer team.
Bill was employed by General Refractories Co. from 1952 - 1968 in Cleveland, OH as an industrial sales representative. Relocating his family to Poland, OH in 1968, he began working for the AFC Corp as Sales Manager, leaving in 1972 to join The Carbon Limestone Co. as Sales Manager until 1983. He subsequently held positions at Presque Isle Corp and R.W. Sidley Co. until retiring in 1996. Semi-retirement followed as a self-employed golf course sand sales representative until full-retirement in 2006.
Bill was an active member of the Poland community, where he served as a little league coach and team manager in the girls’ softball league.
He was a member of Central Christian Church, Trinity Methodist and Poland Presbyterian, all of Mahoning County, and served as an Elder and Trustee.
He enjoyed golf, playing in local leagues and fly fishing for trout as a member of the Rockwell Springs Trout Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Sally (Browne) of Grosse Pointe, MI, whom he married August 10, 1957. They have 5 children: W. Stephen Foster, Jr (Leslie) of Milwaukee, WI, Kimberly Ann Foster (Michael Holm) of Chicago, IL, Jennifer Stearns of Huntersville, NC, Amy Wittman (Bill) of Canfield, OH and Douglas W. Foster of Portland, OR (deceased).
Bill and Sally Foster have seven grandchildren: Christopher & Alexander Foster, Samantha, Allison & Zachery Stearns, Matthew & Garret Wittman, and a step-grandson Zane Holm.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 AM at the Poland Presbyterian Church with Dr. Paul Anderson officiating.
