Lowellville - William Wallace Erskine, Sr., 80, of Lowellville, OH, died Tuesday afternoon in St. Elizabeth Health Center. Mr. Erskine, also known as Bill, was born June 5, 1927 in Lowellville, a son of Wallace S. and Ruth Battinger Erskine. He was raised in Lowellville and lived in Virginia until returning to this area in 1995. He was a 1945 graduate of Lowellville High School and in August of that year he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Germany. After the war, he returned to the area and received his BA in Chemical Engineering from Case University in 1951. Bill worked in various engineering capacities with DuPont, Mobil Chemical, and retired as a senior environmental engineer with the Virginia Department Air Pollution Control. He was a member of Disciples Christian Church in Boardman and the American Legion Post #247 of Lowellville. Bill liked to joke, dispense advice, and discuss religion with anybody. He was a pack rat's pack rat. Bill loves his three children, William W. Erskine, Jr. and Jane Erskine both of Glen Allen, VA, and Ellen (Keith) Littlefield of Annandale, VA; two grandchildren, Samuel and Katherine Littlefield; and his cat Barry. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and George Erskine. Many thanks go to the dedicated professionals at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and the Greenbriar Health Care Center during our father's brief illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers with Rev. Thomas H. Madden officiating. Interment will follow in the Lowellville Cemetery, Lowellville, Ohio. Friends will be received Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home with an American Legion Service at 6:00 p.m. The family requests any memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mr. Erskine's name to Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, OH 44512 or to the American Legion Post #247, c/o John S.
