Services will be held Friday 11:00 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church for William J. "Bill" Ellis, Sr., formerly of Boardman. He passed away Tuesday night at Hospice House.
Mr. Ellis was born Dec. 17, 1921 in Youngstown, a son of John and Florence Ellis. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1941 and attended Youngstown State University. He was the owner and operator of Youngstown Tire and Supply Company, retiring in 1984.
Bill was a member of the Ohio Cultural Alliance, Sigma Club and a 50 year member of the Poland Lodge #766 F&AM. He loved coaching and umpiring Little League baseball.
His wife, the former Ruth Browne, whom he married November 17, 1945, died April 16, 1998.
Surviving him are his sons, William (Susan) Ellis, Jr. of Stroudsburg, PA and Ronald B. Ellis of Pleasant Hill, CA; two brothers, Robert Ellis of Orlando, FL and Herb Ellis of Youngstown; two grandsons, Matthew (Kristen) Ellis and Scott Ellis; and a great grandson, Jaxon Ellis; and his companion, Mary Ann Fees.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman and Friday from 10:00 -10:45 a.m. at the church.
