"Together Again"
POLAND - William E. Briggs passed away of old age on Jan. 3, 2012, at 100 years and 210 days old.
William was born June 4, 1911, in Youngstown, a son of William and Charlotte Brightman Briggs.
He graduated from East High School in 1929, where he played drums in the band and orchestra. He graduated from Youngstown College (Youngstown State University) in 1933. He worked in the office at Hygrade Meat Packaging, and later went on to retire from Mahoning Bank as head of payroll in 1981, with 22 years of service.
He was a Elder at the Western Reserve Community Church of Boardman and belonged to the Christian men's group "Chatterbox." He was also a member of the Mahoning Bank Golf League.
Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Florence, whom he married in 1934; and siblings, Albert, Carl, and Clyde Briggs, Myrtle Lewis, and Florence Moody.
He is survived by his son, David E. (Paula) Briggs of Ravenna; his daughter, Judy (John) Forney of Poland; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Services will be Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland.
Friends may call Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
