William L. Bowling

BERLIN CENTER - William Lawrence Bowling, 80, died peacefully at his home in Berlin Center, Ohio on November 21, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill (Larry) was born on November 24, 1936, in Struthers, Ohio, the only child of Thomas R. and Freddie E.

Lambert Bowling.

Bill married the love of his life, Joyce Elaine Williams on September 13, 1958, having celebrated their 59th anniversary this past September.

He served honorably in the Ohio Army National Guard for six years from 1957 - 1963.

Professionally, Bill worked as Director of Personnel at Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company, as Plant Manager at Clark Door in Hood River, Oregon, and an executive for Porcelain Steel Builders in Columbus, Ohio, before he and Joyce established their own business, Lawrence Enterprises in 1990 - which is still being run by his family.

Recreationally, Bill was an avid trap shooter, having won many marksmanship awards at area competitions. Bill enjoyed WWII history and loved spending time with his family - especially supporting his 8 grandchildren at their various sporting events. He served as President of the Struthers High School Band Boosters from 1977 through 1979.

Bill (Larry) is survived and remembered with love by his wife Joyce and three daughters (spouses) - Joy Lukanec (Dan), Freddie Messenger (Dick), and Debbie Kalbfell (Ed); and his 8 grandchildren, Kristin Lukanec, Jordan Lukanec, Elizabeth Franklin, Nicole Franklin, William Jawhari (Quinn), Jason Jawhari, Matthew Kalbfell and Christopher Kalbfell (Danielle); as well as his great-granddaughter, Emma Jawhari, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas Sylvan Bowling; a sister, Martha Akins; a brother, E.D. Fry, and his brother-in-law and dear friend, Edward Williams

The Bowling family gratefully acknowledges the service of Hospice of the Valley - most especially nurse Georgia Greene for her steadfast care and support of Bill and his family in 2017.

Friends may call Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Davidson Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, Ohio, followed by a funeral service Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
