Columbiana - William "Bill" C. Strishock, age 90, of Columbiana, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 26th 2024, at Woodlands at Hampton Woods in Poland, Ohio, under hospice care.
He was born on November 8, 1933.
Bill began honing his lifelong skills in his teen years, building homes in Struthers with his family. He became a master carpenter, constructing custom homes in Canfield, Poland, Columbiana, North Lima, and many other towns. He even built homes in Georgia for a brief period. His knowledge and skills were impeccable. He was always hardworking and believed firmly in a strong work ethic. Visitors to his job sites were often greeted by the sweet tones of his whistling as he worked. He would welcome a coffee break and share a story or two. He generously shared his knowledge and skills with many who worked alongside him, including numerous family members.
In his earlier days, Bill enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives in the countryside with his young family, scouting for property. He always found and built a home just for his family, constructing each one from the ground up. He also enjoyed hunting with his buddies in Cooks Forest, PA, at a cabin they owned and built together. They shared many memories around the “big table,” as it was called.
Bill and his wife Shirley spent many winters in Florida as snowbirds, traveling in their motorhome. They sold their handmade pewter and tinware at big flea markets, making many friends along the way. After retiring from house building, Bill continued crafting furniture for his wife Shirley's business in Columbiana Village. He made thousands of custom handmade pieces of furniture that will last a lifetime. He continued this work well into his 80s before finally closing up shop.
In their later years, Bill and Shirley enjoyed visiting local casinos and trying their luck, which brought them great joy and kept them active. He was always up for a scratch-off ticket, even in his last days.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife Shirley, whom he always lovingly referred to as “my bride.” They had been together since they were teenagers and married in 1954. He also leaves behind three daughters: Cindy (Scott) Vogan of New Port Richey, FL; Vicki (Tom) Cobey of Okatie, SC; and Beverly (Tony) Sciaretta of Okatie, SC. Bill also leaves behind seven adult grandchildren: Jen (Chris) Bokelman of Cincinnati, OH; Shawn (Ashleigh) Cobey of Clemson, SC; Jessica Crouse of Unity, OH; Lindsay (Jarrod) Davis of Bluffton, SC; Josh (Katie) Schmidt of New Port Richey, FL; Shilah (Chris) Watson of Mercer, PA; and SGT. Elias Briceland of Salem, OH, whom Bill was very proud of for his military service. He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, with the 17th arriving in January 2025, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers, and a grandson.
Bill will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his storytelling, and the laughter he brought to those around him.
Per his request, no services will be held. Contributions in Bill's memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 979 Tibbetts Road, suite A, Girard, OH 44420 in memory of Bill.
May he rest easy.
