Poland - William Battista, 91, died Sunday evening, April 29, 2012 at the Hospice House.
Mr. Battista was born September 25, 1920 in Youngstown, a son of Frank and Frances (Gillotti) Battista.
He was a graduate of Struthers High School and worked as a steel worker for LTV, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II.
Mr. Battista was a member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Youngstown.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Varga, whom he married February 8,1949; daughter, Sally (Curtis) Whitaker of Poland; son, Joseph (Elaine) Battista of Boardman; two sisters, Georgianna Minghetti of Youngstown and Florence Zoldak of Florida; four grandchildren, John (April) Mentzer of Lowellville, Jim Mentzer of Boardman, Joelayne (Dennis) Glover of Muskegon, Michigan, and Steven Battista of Boardman; and one great grandson, Milo Glover.
Besides his parents, Mr. Battista was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Dominic, and James Battista; and three sisters, Mary Botsko, Catherine Connors, and Eleanor "Nora" Papalia.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
