William G. "Swabby" Barton

Struthers - William Glenn Barton, 83, of Boardman, formerly of Struthers, died Thursday morning.

William, better known by his nickname "Swabby", was born January 4, 1928 in Youngstown. His residence was in Struthers, but for the past couple years he primarily lived with his daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren in Boardman.

Swabby was a United States Navy Veteran, serving from 1946 through 1949 on the U.S.S. Portsmouth and the U.S.S. Theodore E. Chandler. He worked as a millwright at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube until its closing in 1978 and was a Shop Steward for the United Steel Workers Union.

His wife, the former Dorothy Polisky, whom he married September 15, 1962, died June 12, 2008.

He is survived by two daughters, Denise (Paul) Wilkens of Struthers and Margaret (John) Puhalla of Boardman; and three grandchildren, Ashley Wilkens of Struthers, and Andrew and Alyssa Puhalla of Boardman.

Services will be held Saturday, 11:00 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers with Deacon Michael Kocjancic officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.

Friends will be received Saturday from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the funeral home.
