William R. Augustine

Lowellville - William R. Augustine, 84, of Lowellville, died April 20, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Augustine was born October 5, 1926 in Hillsville, PA, a son of Pasquale and Catherine Schiaville Augustine.

He attended Bessemer High School until joining the United States Navy during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he returned home and worked for Sharon Steel as a crane operator, retiring in 1986. After retirement, he worked part time for the Village of Lowellville.

Mr. Augustine was a member of the Lowellville Christian Church, Lowellville Senior Citizens, American Legion, and the original Lowellville Lions Club. He was a former Lowellville councilman and a Lowellville volunteer fireman for many years.

Mr. Augustine loved his hometown of Lowellville and took great pride in trying to keep it clean and making it a wonderful community to live in. In 1989, he was recognized for his efforts when Lowellville presented him with the Good Citizen Citation.

His hobbies included woodworking, and he was well known for making his famous pepperoni rolls, which he named Augie's Doggies.

His leaves his wife, the former Marie A. Vernon, whom he married August 7, 1948; son, William (Robyn) Augustine of Merritt Island, FL; daughter, Esther (Walter) Harris of Lowellville; two grandchildren, Michael (Shana) Storti of Viera, FL and Jenny Storti of Lowellville; and four great-grandchildren, Marisa and Michael Storti, and Annamarie Storti and Chloe Necastro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa Sfara and Rose Ali; and six brothers, Robert, Frank, John, Thomas, Pat, and Joseph Augustine.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville with Rev. Owen Fitch officiating. Interment will take place at Lowellville Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Saturday from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
