Poland - Wilfred C. "Bill" McHugh, 95, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at his home.
Mr. McHugh, affectionately known as "Bill", was born November 22, 1915 in Wellsburg, WV, the son of Neal and Margaret Crouch McHugh. He has lived in Poland since 1955.
He was a graduate of Wells High School in Steubenville. After high school, Mr. McHugh attended a course in electrical engineering sponsored by Weirton Steel, where he was employed as an inspector. In 1945, he took a position with the Hiram Walker Inc. and became a sales supervisor in the Canton-Akron-Youngstown District, until his retirement in 1980. He also held a realtor license.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Knights of Columbus, both in Poland. Mr. McHugh was an auctioneer, and over the years, he and his wife, Helen, enjoyed both buying and selling antiques. He also enjoyed antique cars and golfing.
His wife, the former Helen Tyska, whom he married June 29, 1936, died August 7, 2003. He is survived by five grandchildren, Gerald "Mike"(Denise) McHugh of Poland, Lori McHugh of Berlin Center, Gera (Mark) Miller of Canfield, Deborah (Jeff) Schultz of Poland, and Patrick McHugh of Jacksonville, FL; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joann McHugh of Poland; sister-in-law, Regina Zuk of Toronto, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. McHugh was preceded in death by his two sons, Gerald "Jerry" and Wilfred "Bill" McHugh; brother, Terry McHugh; three sisters, Katherine Livingston, Marylyn Crabtree, and Claire Proellochs; and a grandson, William McHugh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at noon at Holy Family Parish. Family and friends will be received Monday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. at the church, prior to the Mass. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
