Ladson, SC - Wendy F. Gavalier, 48, formerly of Poland, died Saturday morning, February 20, 2016 at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, SC.
Wendy was born November 27, 1967 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Deborah Butler Gavalier.
She was a 1985 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and attended Youngstown State University. Wendy worked for Alltel Wireless which later became Verizon Wireless as a Daily Ratings Supervisor for 20+ years. Wendy was a lifelong area resident until moving to Ladson, SC two and half years ago for her work.
She was a committee member of Mahoning County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and a member of Youngstown Parrot Head Club. An active member of the community, Wendy volunteered for On Target Outfitters, 34 West Theater Company in Charleston, along with many others organizations.
Wendy enjoyed cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and Youngstown State Penguins and was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Some of her other favorite pastimes included spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, going to the "cabin" in Potter County, PA, and she loved all dogs . Wendy also enjoyed cooking and entertaining guests at her home.
No matter where Wendy went, she always seemed to make a friend. She loved all of her friends dearly and thought of them as family.
In addition to her parents of Columbiana, Wendy is survived by her sister, Sarah Gavalier and soon to be brother-in-law, Zachary Cuculich of Canfield; uncle and aunt, Dennis and Karen Gavalier of Naples, FL; and many other beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Wendy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John Gavalier Sr. and John and Mary Salata Sheetz; and maternal grandparents, Evan and Florence Butler.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, where family and friends will be received on Sunday from 1-3:45 p.m., prior to the service.
