WAYNE E. GROPE
Boardman- Wayne Evan Grope 66, died Saturday December 8, 2012 at the Hospice House.
Mr. Grope was born October 2, 1946 in Youngstown a son of Charles and Eleanor Shaw Grope.
Wayne was a 1966 graduate of Boardman High School and attended Youngstown State University for over three years. He retired from the former Youngstown Sheet and Tube where he worked in the maintenance department.
He was a member of the Wedgewood Evangelical Church. Wayne was a member of Allen Lodge F & AM 276 where he served as Master in 2002, Omega Council # 44, New Lisbon Chapter # 93, and Salem Commandery # 42, all of the York Rite, 32nd degree Masonry. He was a member of Al Koran Shrine Temple of Cleveland and the Youngstown Shrine Club. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 14 of Cleveland. In 2002 he served as Co-Chairman of Grand Lodge.
Wayne was very active with the Youngstown Shrine Club, volunteering for most projects and fund raisers. He was known as "Mr. Onion" as he ran the annual Vidalia onion sales. He had an interest in the Wheels of Mercy which provides transportation, without charge, for area children being treated at the Erie and Cincinnati Shrine Hospitals.
Wayne is survived by a sister, Charlene Bair of Youngstown, three brothers; Charles Grope of Boardman, Ronald (Bonnie) Grope of Poland and Bruce Grope of Chippewa, Pennsylvania. He also leaves his beloved aunt, Ruth Thompson with whom he resided for forty years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, David Grope.
A Memorial service will he held at 6:30 PM Wednesday December 19, 2012 at the Youngstown Shrine Club, 1735 West South Range Road, North Lima.
