Struthers

Struthers - Wanda Lou Young, 85, of Struthers, formerly of Salem, passed away Monday morning, January 14, 2019 at her daughter, Sherri's home in Franklin, TN.

Wanda was born February 8, 1933 in Struthers, a daughter of James and Edna Allen Panter.

Raised in Struthers, Wanda was a graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1950. She went on to earn her degree in Christian Education from the Bible Baptist Institute now Cedarville University. Wanda had fond memories of working as a house parent at Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphan's Home in Xenia, Ohio while attending college and continued her work there until her marriage to Thomas Paul Young on September 27, 1958.

Wanda cared for her family in God's love as jobs led them to Boardman, Austintown, Oil City, Cleveland, Toledo, and then back to Salem, Ohio. When her husband Tom died on January 15, 2007, Wanda moved to Struthers to live condo life as a widow. In November 2017 she joined the household of her daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Herb Chapman in Franklin, TN.

An active member in all her home churches, Wanda was a children's church teacher, loyal choir member, and joyful congregation member. After her children were grown, Wanda served as church secretary at both Salem and Winona Friends Church. Most recently she attended Poland Bethel Friends Church.

Wanda's favorite job was that of a mom, grandma and great grandma. She also found much joy in gardening, camping, playing the piano, singing, motorcycle rides, and always, the most joy spending time with her family and friends, spreading the love of Jesus to all around her.

Her earthly body and mind were surrounded by loving family as her soul gladly flew away to meet her Lord.

Wanda was a dedicated mother of Sherri (Herb) Chapman of Franklin, TN, Paula (Dean) McDaniel of Beloit, and Beth Amy (Stephen) Queen of Poland; loving grandmother to twelve grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Wanda was preceded in death by brothers Charles and James Panter; and sister Mildred Yost.

Friends will be received Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, followed by a funeral service celebrating Wanda's life at 3:00 p.m. with Jordan McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow Monday at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
