North Lima - Wanda Thompson passed away quietly on April 6, 2015 in the presence of her loving family at The Assumption Village Nursing Home.
She leaves her son, Paul (Barbara) Moore and daughter-in-law, Joyce Moore; her grandchildren, Sherry (Randy) Lillo, Denise (Chris) Osikiewicz, Paul (Shelly) Moore, Christine (John) Kiddon and Paul Jr (Heather) Moore; and her precious great grandchildren Tyler Lillo, Hailee Kiddon, Brea Moore, Steven Burnham, Sara Moore and Clayton Moore who lovingly called her 'Nanny'; and two brothers, Harold (Sharon) Paugh and Willard (Patty) Paugh.
Wanda was born Wanda Mae Paugh on May 14, 1923 in Dobson, Maryland. She was raised by her grandparents and her father, Charles, after her mother's death as a young baby. In those early years, she worked on her family farm. She met her husband, Paul Moore, and they were married in 1938.
She and her husband, Paul, operated a small family farm in Deer Park. They moved to Youngstown, Ohio with their two sons, Roy and Paul (Eugene) in 1954. Wanda became employed with Cubbison Company just days after her arrival in Ohio and worked there for 35 years, until her retirement in 1989.
Wanda enjoyed her retirement by caring for her great grandchildren for many years. She said that running after small children kept her young. She considered taking care of her family and other loved ones as her life's greatest accomplishment. She loved good food, spending time with her family, socializing and playing cards with friends. She was a gentle soul who had a beautiful smile that could light up a room. Friends and family described Wanda as a saint, in that she put other's needs in front of her own.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Virginia Paugh, her husband, Paul, her daughter, Reta and her son, Roy. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Clayton Thompson, and long-time companion, Bill Leombruno; and two sisters, Seretha Uphole and Norma Evans.
The family is extremely grateful for the care and kindness she received from the staff at The Assumption Nursing Home and Hospice of the Valley.
Services will be held at Newman Funeral Home, 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD. Friends and family can pay their respects on Friday, April 10th from 5-7 pm and services on Saturday, April 11th at 10 am. The family will host a reception after the service.
