Wanda Lou Jones, 79 BOARDMANâa�"Wanda Lou Jones, 79, a 52 year resident of Thalia Avenue, died Wednesday afternoon at Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman. Mrs. Jones was born August 30, 1927 in Youngstown, a daughter of Herbert and Thyrza McCartney Davis. A 1945 graduate of South High School, Mrs. Jones worked in the accounts payable and receivable office of Youngstown Sheet and Tube and Automatic Sprinkler. As a high school student, she began performing at the Youngstown Playhouse in 1944 where she eventually met her husband. In 1975, 1986 and 1989, she was a recipient of the Arthur Awards for her performances in âa�A"I Remember Mamaâa�A�, âa�A"Fox Fireâa�A�, and âa�A"Social Securityâa�A�. In addition to the Playhouse, she sang and appeared in commercials for several local businesses. After years of dedication, she retired from acting in 1990. She was a member of the Southside Duplicate Bridge Club and in 1992 she received the Life Masters Award from the American Contract Bridge League. Her husband, J. Mervyn Jones, whom she married April 2, 1949, died June 14, 1998. She is survived by three daughters, Jill (Jeff) Jones-Heintz of Boardman, Jodi (John) McCammon and Julie Jones-Weiser of Youngtown; a son, Jeffrey (Gail) Jones of Centerville, OH; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Kimberly Jones, Jason, Holly and Andrew Weiser, and Evan and Tyler Heintz. Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Theodore Davis. A memorial service will be Saturday at 4:00 at Cunningham Becker Funeral Home, Poland where friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
