LOWELLVILLE- Walter "Skip" Murray Harris, 65, passed away peacefully April 26, 2014, at his residence from a terminal illness.
Mr. Harris was born Feb. 1, 1949, in Youngstown, a son of Edward and Laurabelle Knoll Harris.
Skip was a 1967 graduate of Lowellville High School, where he played football. He was veteran of the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. from 1969 to 1975.
He also was a graduate of Youngstown State University. He had worked at Youngstown Thermal/TVI for 23 years as superintendent/project manager. He was a lifelong member of the Lowellville Christian Church and a former member of the American Legion Post 247 in Lowellville.
He leaves his wife, Esther (Augustine) Harris of Lowellville, whom he married July 20, 1990; a son, Walter Harris of North Carolina; a daughter, Lynn Leinhos of Michigan; a stepson, Michael Storti of Struthers; a stepdaughter, Jenny Storti of Lowellville; three brothers, Newt Harris of Youngstown, Chuck (Mary) Harris of Lowellville, and David (Karen) Harris of Lowellville; and six grandchildren, James, Jacob, Annamarie, Chloe, Marisa and Michael.
Besides his parents, Walter was preceded in death by a brother, Edward "Ted" J. Harris Jr.
Services will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville, with the Rev. Owen D. Fitch officiating.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday from 5 to 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
