Poland - Walter G. Carnathan, 75, of Poland, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Hospice House. Mr. Carnathan was born November 8, 1932 in Paterson, New Jersey, a son of George and Irene Kamerling Carnathan. He worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs as a counselor, retiring in 1985. Mr. Carnathan was a decorated United States Navy veteran serving during the Korean War. His interests included golfing and painting. He leaves his daughter, LeeAnn (William) Johnson of Poland; a grandson, Nathan Johnson; three sisters, Lois (Richard) Pruden of Franklin, TN, Claire Hoppstadter of Port Richey, FL and Jean Easdale of Clifton, NJ; and two brothers, William (Ruth) Carnathan of Flanders, NJ and Harold (Mary) Carnathan of St. Simons Island, GA. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Iva Bankos and Beverly Dews; and one brother, Robert Carnathan. Services will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida. There will be no local calling hours or services.
