Walter D Blackburn

Boardman - Walter D. Blackburn, 72, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2016 in Hospice of the Valley's, Hospice House. He was born October 26, 1944 in Maitland, WV, son of the late Garnet and Cora Mullins Blackburn.

Walter proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot and achieved the rank of Captain. He retired from General Motors in 2000 following 30 years of employment as an assembler. He was an avid car collector and attended all the local car swaps and meetings. Walter enjoyed camping with his family at Cook Forest and spending time with friends. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He leaves his loving wife, Barbara; three children, Brian Blackburn of Boardman, Barbara (Ivan) Blackburn of Orlando, FL and Brad (Michelle) Blackburn of New Middletown; six grandchildren, Nathan, Breanna, Taylor, Alex, Payton and Ella; and three brothers, Paul, James and Cecil Blackburn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Blackburn.

In honoring his wishes, there will be no services.

The Davidson-Becker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

The family would to send a special thank you to Dr. Kinepe of Cleveland, Nora, Walter's post transplant coordinator, Dr. Zeno of Boardman and to Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care given to Walter.
