Virginia Elizabeth Hird

Youngstown - Virginia Elizabeth "Sis" Hird, 73, died Tuesday afternoon, January 30, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital. 

Virginia, known as "Sis," was born March 5, 1950 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of Robert and Helen Kearney Hird.

A lifelong resident of the area, Virginia was a graduate of Struthers High School and received her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Youngstown State University. As a teenager, she worked for Idora Park in food concessions and then as a bartender. Virginia later worked for Republic Steel for 5 years and finished her career as a drywall finisher.

When she was young, she loved spending time on her speedboat and water skiing. For many years, she was a member of Mahoning Sportsman's Association, where she enjoyed camping.  

Virginia is survived by her three brothers, Robert (Marilee) Hird of Youngstown, John "Jack" (Caroline Holsapple) Hird of Poland, and William "Boyd" Hird of Poland; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Edward "Kook" Hird, Donald Hird, and Howard "Howie" Hird; and sisters-in-law, Susan Hird and Carol Hird. 

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Select Specialty Hospital who cared for Virginia in her last days.
