Poland - Violet A. Atana, 92, of Poland died October 9, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boardman.
Mrs. Atana was born January 21, 1922 in Youngstown, a daughter of Joseph and AnnaMae Kohler Rakocy.
She was a 1939 South High School graduate. Violet worked as a Occupational Therapist for Woodside Hospital and also an Activities Therapist at Mahoning County Rehabilitation Service in Struthers for many years.
She was a member of Poland Presbyterian Church and Struthers Presbyterian Church.
Violet taught ceramics for 35 years. Her hobbies were tap dancing, china and water color painting. She also was an accomplished organist.
Her husband, William, whom she married July 29, 1939, died Dec. 13, 1999.
She is survived by one son, Robert L. Atana of Vallejo, CA; two brothers, William (Gloria) Rakocy of El Paso, TX and Robert (Marilyn) Rakocy of Poland; six grandchildren, Vicki (Dennis) Branson of Oakgrove AK, Beverly (Scott) Vogler of Missouri, Karen Owens of Missouri, Jeff (Dawn) Davis of Vallejo, CA, Shelli (Chuck) Malloch of Vallejo, CA, and Bret Davis of Davis, CA; five great-grandchildren, Sharlene Barber-Kennedy, Joseph Malloch, William Davis, Michael Davis, Bret Davis; and two great- grandchildren, Nathan and Lydia.
Besides her parents and husband, Violet was preceded in death by one son, William F. Atana, ; one daughter, Judy Leanne Atana; one brother, Joseph Rakocy; and two daughter-in-laws, Patricia and Katie Atana.
Private services will be held at Lake Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Davidson-Becker Funeral Home Struthers.
