Lowellville - Viola E. Thomas, 91, died on Monday, September 12, 2016 in Masternick Memorial Health Care Center, where she resided for the last five years. She was born July 22, 1925 in Lowellville, daughter of the late Ralph and Anna Cercone Sylvester.
Viola graduated from Lowellville High School in 1942. She married Bartholomew Thomas on July 10, 1948 and together they had two sons, Phillip and Jerome. She was employed as a supervisor in the housekeeping department for Mahoning Bank in Youngstown, retiring after 35 years. She was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church and the Infant Jesus of Prague in Campbell. Viola will always be remembered as a wonderful and loving daughter, wife, mother, sister and aunt. The family recently celebrated her 90th birthday with a surprise party hosted by her nieces and nephews. Viola was an animal lover, wonderful dancer, great cook, phenomenal whistler, had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. She was very fun loving and lit up a room with her contagious smile. Viola had a way about her that everyone wanted to be around her, she was where the fun was.
She leaves her three sisters, Amelia Guido of Youngstown, Mary Ginnetti of Lowellville and Martha Gamble of Montclaire, CA. and her niece, Ann Sylvester of Poland, OH. who helped keep a watchful eye on her for the last 10 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bartholomew Thomas, who passed on February 6, 1994, her sons, Phillip and Jerome Thomas, her sister, Eleanor Furman and her brothers, Alfred, Peter and Nick Sylvester.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11am at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 219 E. Wood St. Lowellville, with the Rev. Fr. Christopher Luoni as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Friends will be received prior to mass from 10-10:45am on Friday at the church.
