Struthers - Velma L. Brownlee, 93, of Struthers, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman. Mrs. Brownlee was born January 27, 1915 in Struthers, a daughter of Emery and Florence Millard Rough. She was a life long area resident and lived most of her life in Struthers. She previously worked as a chipper for Crooksville Pottery, as a sales clerk and floor manager for G.C. Murphy, and for Youngstown Rubber Company. Mrs. Brownlee was a member of Struthers Baptist Tabernacle Church. She made beautiful quilts that will be treasured by her family. Her first husband, Bernard Cannon, whom she married June 27, 1935, died June 12, 1959. She leaves her second husband, Lester Brownlee, whom she married February 18, 1961; her son, Richard "Dick" Cannon and his wife, Lois of Struthers; three step-children Noralee Brownlee, Robert Brownlee and Lauralie Zayas, all of Youngstown; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Besides her parents and first husband, Mrs. Brownlee was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Unick; her sister, Edna Ricketts; and her brother, Clarence "Bud" Rough. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
