Thomas Jay Ward, 88, of Youngstown died Saturday evening October 13, 2018 at the Hospice House in Poland.
He was born July 27, 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio a son of Charles and Mabel (Pomeroy) Ward and had been a lifelong area resident.
Thomas worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube for many years, and the worked for Metal Carbides. After his retirement he warked a security position for St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.
He was a member of St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown and had served in the Army.
He had also been a softball manger for many years in the area. He enjoyed old movies, especially westerns, and watching CNN.
His wife, the former Louise Pangio, whom he married June 9, 1956 died October 8, 2008.
He leaves four daughters, Deborah Smith of Youngstown, Terri Chenlikas of Austintown, Anita Ward of Struthers, and Lisa Ward of Youngstown; two sons, Thomas Ward, Jr. of Youngstown, and Scotty )Stephanie) Ward of Youngstown; a brother, John Ward of Canfield; seventeen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his four sisters, Shirley Fetchet, Patty Martin, Jackie Faiola, and Nancy Pauli, as well as his beloved dog, George.
A prayer service will be held 9:15 a.m. Thursday October 18, 2018 at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica in Youngstown with the Very Reverend Monsignor Michael J. Cariglio Jr. Officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
