Thomas H. Toot

Thomas H. Toot Struthers-Thomas H. Toot, 81, a long time resident of Struthers, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at Washington Square Nursing Center in Warren. He was born September 21, 1922, a son of Charles Thomas and Margaret Davis Toot, and grew up on Republic Ave. in Youngstown. Mr. Toot graduated from Rayen High School in 1940 where he was a member of the high school band, playing the French horn. He was a member of the âa�A"Greatest Generationâa�A�, joining the Army Air Force in 1942. He served in the 485th Bomb Group in the North Africa and Italian campaigns in 1944 as a tail-gunner on a B-24, was wounded on a mission over Anzio, Italy on May 10, 1944, and received a Purple Heart. After World War II, Mr. Toot attended Youngstown College, majoring in accounting, became a CPA and worked in the Youngstown and Northeast Ohio area until he retired in 2000. He was employed by Hill and Hammonds and was treasurer of Albee Homes and also operated his own accounting business for many years. Mr. Toot was a past member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants and was a former Treasurer of the Lake to River Girl Scouts. He was an avid golfer, sports fan and political observer. Mr. Toot is survived by his wife, Fran Scott Toot, whom he married December, 24, 1959; one daughter, Lori Vizi of Youngstown; two sons, Attorney Douglas M. (Lola) Toot of Canfield, Thomas L. (Vicki) Toot of Alameda, CA; and five grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Platt. Memorial services will be Monday, July 19, 2004 at 7:00 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Friends may call Monday from 5:00 until 6:45 PM at the funeral home.
