Orwell - Thomas Schmitt, 52, of Orwell, passed on early Saturday morning at Euclid Hospital.
Thom was born May 22, 1959 in Euclid, a son of Robert and Virginia Wuensch Schmitt.
He was raised in Euclid and graduated from Cleveland St. Joseph High School in 1977. Thom received his A.A.S. in Community Mental Health Technology/Chemical Dependency Counseling from Cuyahoga Community College and in 1994 graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in Psychology from Kent State University. He received his Masters of Education degree in community counseling from Kent State University and was a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor for Glenbeigh in Rock Creek for 11 years.
Thom enjoyed a good game of chess, was an avid reader, and loved watching old reruns, especially All in the Family and M-A-S-H, which was his all time favorite. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rock Creek.
Besides his mother of Cleveland, Thom leaves two sisters, Rosemarie Schmitt and Mary Schmitt both of Euclid; one brother, Robert (Kathy) Schmitt of Youngstown; three nephews, Robert Schmitt, John (Christin) Schmitt, and Jason Schmitt; one niece, Karen Schmitt; and one great-nephew, Braydin Schmitt.
Thom was preceded in death by his father, Robert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Creek, with Fr. David Weikart officiating.
Friends will be received Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers.
