Thomas E. Marchese

Poland - Thomas E. Marchese, 56, passed from this life surrounded by his family on May 5, 2012 after an eleven year battle with brain cancer.

Tom was born October 2, 1955 in Youngstown, a son of Rocco J. and Irene (Tamburrino) Marchese.

A 1974 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, Tom was involved in playing many sports but especially enjoyed basketball and baseball, which he continued to play most of his adult life.

After high school, Tom worked for Republic Steel, Truscon Division as a welder. He then developed a love of building and construction and worked for K and B Construction, Marchese and Company, and in 2001 opened his own business, Tom Marchese Construction.

Tom was a member of Holy Family Parish, where he was active in the Christ Renews Its Parish program, taught CCD, and served on various committees.

He truly enjoyed being around people. He loved cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers, playing cards with his closest friends, and will always be remembered for his laughter, sense of humor, love of gardening, and hard work ethic by those who knew him.

His memory will be cherished by his wife of 32 years, the former Cynthia Miketa, whom he married July 7, 1979. Their four children, Jennifer (Kristian) Wymer of Poland, Jason Marchese of North Canton, Kathryn and Sarah Marchese, both at home, along with granddaughters, Madison and Ellie Wymer.

He also leaves his mother, Irene Marchese, and four siblings, Kathleen (Phillip) Ciccone, Fred (Dru) Marchese, Pat (Janice) Marchese, and John (Michele) Marchese, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rocco J. Marchese, and grandparents, Nunziato and Madeline Tamburrino, and Pasquale and Concetta Marchese.

A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank all those who helped to care for Tom throughout his illness, including the doctors and nurses at the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center and Hospice of the Valley.
