Struthers- Thomas Coe Harshbarger, 86, of Runge Blvd., died early Thursday morning at his residence after a two week illness.
Tom was born November 10, 1924 in Boardman, a son of Arthur and Hazel McDonald Harshbarger.
A 1942 graduate of Springfield High School, Tom was a lumber salesman for Union Wholesale Lumber in Youngstown, before becoming a car salesman for Gough Ford Motors in Struthers. He later worked in finance for Donnell Ford and was manager of Capitol Motors in Poland, where he retired.
An active member of the Struthers Presbyterian Church, Tom served as a Deacon, Elder, head usher for over 50 years, and taught the Giorias Sunday School Class. Tom was a member of the Christian Business Men Saturday Morning Breakfast Meeting and also attended weekly bible study lunches every Tuesday at the former Enzio's now known as Pascarella's in Poland.
Tom was also a member of the former Struthers Croquet Club, former member of the Kiwanis, and the F.O.P.
Tom leaves his wife, the former Jean Gates, whom he married October 4, 1947; one daughter, Linda (Alan) Thomas of Struthers; one son, Rick (Kathy) Harshbarger of Struthers; one sister, Ilene Erdman of Cleveland; three grandchildren, Scott (Sara) Thomas, Kori Smith, and Casey (David) Turchen; and four great-grandchildren, Sierra and Zoe Smith, and Keira and Riley Turchen.
Besides his parents , Tom was preceded in death by his three half- brothers, Arthur L., and Donald P. Harshbarger and Edward W. Noce.
Funeral services will be Monday, 1:00 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers with Rev. Thomas Fennell officiating. Family and friends may call Sunday from 2-5 PM at the funeral home.
