Thomas L. Detwiler, 64, died Monday morning, July 24, 2017.
Thomas, affectionately known as "Tom," was born September 6, 1952 in Salem, a son of Maurice and Victoria Lowe Detwiler.
Raised in Columbiana, he was a 1970 graduate of South Range High School. Tom worked as a semi-truck driver for numerous companies throughout his career, most recently for Coy Brothers in Canfield.
Tom was a member of the Ohio Concerns of Police Survivors (Ohio C.O.P.S.). He joined the organization after his son Shane, who was a U.S. Army veteran and Deputy Sheriff, was killed in the line of duty. Tom was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Tom had a big heart, was always willing to lend a helping hand, and had many lifelong friendships he cherished. Thoughtful and creative, Tom will always be remembered as a great gift giver by family and friends. He always searched for the perfect gift that was meaningful and unique, often picking things up in his work travels from across the country.
He is survived by his daughter, Brandi (James) McKnight of Spring, TX; five grandchildren, Colton and Kaitlyn McKnight, Audie, Aiden, and Abigail Detwiler; two sisters, Diana Greier of Canfield and Carol (Victor) Apinis of Salem; two brothers, Jerry Detwiler of North Lima and Samuel (Monica) Detwiler of Columbiana; and daughter-in-law, Trish Detwiler-Freeman of San Saba, TX.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his son, Shane Detwiler; sister-in-law, Donna Detwiler; and, brother-in-law, Gerry Greier.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, where family and friends will be received on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m., prior to the service.
Although flowers are beautiful, the family asks that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Tom's name to Ohio Concerns of Police Survivors, P.O. Box 2113, Cridersville,Ohio 45806.
